côte Tanger

A land where tradition and modernity meet

Located in the northwest of the African continent and facing Spain, Morocco is a passageway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, a crossroads between Europe and Africa. This unique position has shaped the country's history over time. After being occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians during Antiquity, the country converted to Islam in the 7th century under the influence of Arabs and Berbers. During the 15th century, it was invaded by the Portuguese and Spanish, then went on to become a French protectorate. The Moroccans gained their independence in 1956. Today, the Kingdom of Morocco is a nation with a unique identity, where economic growth and age-old customs coexist in harmony.

Nature lovers can explore the limestone landscapes of the Dades or Todgah Gorges
Head off to Paradise Valley to admire the diversity of flora and fauna. And for a complete picture of the country's landscapes, head to the dunes of the Sahara, at Merzouga or Dakhla, for example.

To discover the richness of Moroccan architecture and culture, head for the imperial cities. In Rabat, Fez or Marrakech, historic neighborhoods and contemporary museums exist side by side.

Discover Tangier

Book a trip on one of La Méridionale's regular Marseille-Tangier Med crossings and discover Africa's main port and one of Morocco's most vibrant cities.

Tangier, the white city

Tangier is marked by maritime activities and interactions between peoples. As soon as you step off the ferry in Morocco, you'll be immersed in the buzz of the city instantly.

If you fancy a bit of peace and quiet, simply head to La Kasbah. Situated on the heights, the citadel allows you to admire the bright facades and terraces that earn Tangier its nickname of the White City.

The perfectly preserved Medina is home to palaces, museums and the Great Mosque. Smaller and quieter than those of Casablanca or Meknes, it will be the ideal place to wind down.

Place à Tanger

Must-visits

Other surprises await you, such as the Cap Malabata and its view of the city, the bay and the Strait of Gibraltar.

And, while you're here, visit the Caves of Hercules. The mythological hero is said to have rested here during his 12 labors. It doesn't matter if the legend is true: these man-made caverns alone are worth the trip.

Finally, take advantage of your stroll through the Grand Souk market to stop off at the Cinéma Rif. It's now a cinematheque that honors new Moroccan creation and hosts a pleasant café with terrace.

If you want to explore Tangier, book your boat ticket to Morocco as a pedestrian passenger or with your vehicle. Whether you're traveling alone or with your family, your cabin awaits you in Marseille on a boat to Morocco! And thanks to the warm welcome from our teams, the chef's tasty cuisine and our comfortable cabins, you'll already feel like you're in Morocco before you've even left the port.
